The idea behind this software is actually pretty neat. It involves plugging in a USB drive, creating a key and plugging and unplugging your USB drive depending on whether you're at the computer. It works on an interval and checks every now and then whether the thumb drive is connected. Once the program realizes that the USB stick is no longer connected, the PC locks up.
When the program is running, a little green icon will pop up in the task bar, giving you access to PREDATOR with a couple of mouse clicks. From there, you can access the settings.
Once you come back to the computer and plug your drive back into the PC, the PC unlocks without having to type in a password. If somebody tries to access the computer when the USB stick is unplugged, they'll be required to enter a password. If a wrong password is entered, an alarm sounds and whoever has been trying to access the system should be scared off -- or if it's you, just connect the stick or type in the admin password.
If you're in a home full of children or you're in a workplace where you're worried unauthorized users will try to access your system, PREDATOR is a great tool to install.
The free edition is free for personal use. The developer asks that all commercial users purchase the professional edition which offers additional features such as protected preferences, enable/disable the task manager from unauthorized access, posting logs to twitter and the option to use an unlimited number of USB keys.
You can download both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions from this page.
